A grandfather killed his young grandson by lying on top of for several minutes because the boy was throwing a temper tantrum, according to police in Ohio.
The Brown County Sheriff’s Office said that they have arrested Donald Martin Jr., 58, of 17296 Minnick Road, after being accused of killing 11-year-old Dylan Davis.
Martin has been charged with reckless homicide.
He is currently being held at the Brown County Jail.
Martin was arraigned on Saturday at the Brown County Municipal Court and his bail has been set at $100,000.
According to the police investigation, on Friday, at approximately 6:40 p.m., the Brown County Communications Center received a call, requesting an ambulance to respond to 17296 Minnick Road.
The caller stated that Davis had been having a temper tantrum, passed out, and was experiencing short shallow breaths.
Emergency workers responded to the Minnick Road location and found Davis to be unresponsive.
Davis was taken to the Mt. Orab Mercy hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Martin, who weighs around 400 pounds, told police that Davis was acting out and he was just trying to restrain him.
Martin lied on top of the boy for several minutes until Davis passed out.
Police said that it appears the boy died as a result of positional asphyxiation or compression.
Davis suffered from autism.
The boy’s father, Sam Davis, admitted that his son occasionally had angry outbursts.
