Police in Japan launched an attempted murder investigation after an elderly woman was found with deep cuts on her face.
Mayuko Matsumoto said that when she went to visit her 82-year-old mother on Monday, she found her lying unconscious on the floor and bleeding from her face.
Matsumoto called the police who found that the elderly woman had suffered 20 cuts on her face.
The woman was taken to a hospital, where she was treated and released.
Police launched an attempted murder investigation and began searching for the suspect.
Investigators became suspicious after there were no signs of forced entry into the woman’s home.
They then turned their attention to the stray cats in the area.
Police eventually found human blood on one of the cat’s paws.
Police suspect that the elderly woman, who is unable to talk, was scratched by the cat.
The cat was detained.
Police send the blood for testing to see whether it matches the elderly woman.
