Police in Florida were called after the body of an off-duty officer was found next to his police cruiser.
The victim was found in the parking lot of the St. Petersburg College-Veterinary Technology Center located at 12376 Ulmerton Road in Largo.
According to detectives, the body of 44-year-old Sergeant Michael Borland was found in the parking lot at about 9:00 a.m.
Detectives said that Sgt. Borland suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The death is considered a suicide.
Sgt. Borland was hired by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office in 1996, and he worked in the Patrol Operations Bureau, according to police.
Sgt. Borland leaves behind his wife who is also a sergeant at the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
