A teenager tried to escape his prison sentence by fleeing from the courthouse.
19-year-old Cyrus Matthews from Cleveland, Ohio, was in court for sentencing in a road rage incident.
Matthews’ girlfriend was in Wadsworth municipal court when he was sentenced to 60 days in jail.
Matthews was not happy with the sentence. He looked around the room and seemed to motion something to his girlfriend before he quickly walked out.
The court female bailiff, who was not armed, ran after him and warned Matthews that if he flees, he will face a felony as opposed to the misdemeanor he had just been sentenced for.
Matthews stopped for a moment, but soon left and got into the driver’s side of his car while his girlfriend got into the passenger seat.
Matthews drove at 90 miles per hour and before police were able to determine which direction he was heading, the suspect crashed the vehicle.
The speeding car crashed and hit another car. A couple and their baby were injured. They were transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Matthews and his passenger were trapped and had to be cut from their vehicle. The police did not reveal the woman’s name or her medical condition.
Matthews was treated at the hospital before being arrested for felony escape and fleeing and eluding.
He is serving his initial prison sentence while awaiting his new trial.
