A woman who was angry about a child support court order mailed bombs to several government officials including former President Barack Obama, according to police in Texas.
Sealy police said that they have arrested 46-year-old Julia Poff after being accused of mailing explosive devices to government officials whom she blamed for child support policies she did not like.
Poff was also charged with food stamp fraud and false bankruptcy declaration.
The most serious charge filed against her is mailing injurious articles and transporting explosives with the intent to kill and injure.
She was booked into a Houston federal detention center after being denied bail.
A judge determined that Poff was a flight risk.
According to the police investigation, Poff had her former husband arrested and she demanded child support from him.
Poff became upset because she did not like the outcome of her child support case.
She then sent bombs to Texas Governor Greg Abbott and former President Barack Obama.
Poff also sent an explosive device to the Social Security Administration near Baltimore, Maryland, because she was denied benefits.
The court was told that Abbott opened the package but it did not explode.
Had it exploded, it would have caused death.
The package to the White House was intercepted by the FBI.
Investigators managed to link the packages back to Poff after finding cat hair that was linked to one of her pets.
Poff was once accused of stuffing potatoes down the toilets of her rented apartment because she got an eviction notice for not paying rent.
She also poured cement into the drains.
In another incident, she poured cereal on the carpet of a rented home to infest it with bugs.
Poff denied all the allegations, saying she was being framed by the police who took garbage from her home to make it appear that she was behind the letter bombs.
