Walmart shopper swaps barcodes to pay $3 for computer as gift to husband as appreciation for buying her Coach purseBy Emily Lewis 6:31 AM November 10, 2017
A woman tried to rob Walmart by swapping barcodes on items.
The woman from Florida was arrested after being accused of exchanging barcodes at the Vero Beach Walmart store so that she should not have to pay full price for them.
A loss prevention officer said that 25-year-old Cheyenne Amber West and another woman picked up several high-priced items from the store’s electronics department before going to the clearance section.
They removed the barcodes from the clearance items and placed them over expensive merchandise including a computer and video game controller.
When West brought the items to the self-checkout counter, her total bill was just $3.70 for the electronic items that had a value of over $1,800.
“I am just trying to get gifts for my son that I cannot afford. The computer is for my husband. He just got me a Coach purse, I figured he deserved something nice, as well,” West told the loss prevention officer.
West was arrested and charged with felony grand theft and felony shoplifting. Her bail was set at $3,000.
