A woman is facing charges after killing her roommate’s pet because it bit her earlier in the day, according to police in New Hampshire.
Manchester Police Lt. Brian N. O’Keefe said that officers responded to 80 Lowell Street at 2:40 a.m., Wednesday, for a call involving smoke in the building.
The call for service originated from smoke caused by a burned item located inside an oven.
Firefighters cleared the building and discovered a deceased ferret inside the oven.
The two people who rented the apartment advised police of a female roommate who had already vacated the apartment.
They said their temporary guest was standing outside of the apartment building along with other displaced tenants.
Officer Michael DeJoy and Officer Brianna Miano located and arrested Ivana Clifford, 26, outside of the apartment building after speaking with the owners of the dead ferret.
Clifford who was charged with one count animal cruelty.
Kara Murray, the owner of the ferret, said that Clifford became angry when the pet bit her earlier in the day.
Murray was shocked by the cruelty of Clifford.
Murray told police that she had no idea that Clifford would actually put her ferret named Angel, 2, inside the oven and cook it alive.
Murray allowed Clifford to live in her home because she was homeless and pregnant.
Clifford was booked into jail and her bail has been set at $10,000.
