A woman was arrested after being accused of causing the death of 17 people and injuring 10 others.

Police in Pakistan, said that the woman attempted to poison her husband after being forced into the arranged marriage.

21-year-old Aasia Bibi from Muzaffargarh Punjab was forced by her family to marry 25-year-old Amjad Akram against her will.

Two months into the unhappy marriage, Bibi, who was allegedly in love with another man, hatched a plot to kill her husband by putting poison into a bottle of milk.

Police claim that her lover Shahid Lashari provided Bibi with the poisonous substance to kill her husband.

However, the plan did not kill their intended target as Bibi’s mother-in-law used the milk to make yogurt, which she served at a family gathering.

27 members of the Akram family who consumed the yogurt began to show symptoms of poisoning.

15 people died in the hospital due to severe poisoning while another 12 are in critical condition.

Police arrested Bibi, her lover Lashari, and his aunt for their roles in the deaths.

According to police, Bibi confessed to her role in poisoning the milk. Her lover denied the allegations.

Officers paraded the lover to court with a black fabric bag over his head in order to hide his identity. Police said that they “did not want his family to be attacked by the affected family or their relatives.”

The young woman denied all the accusations made against her.
