A woman kept begging for money from her former boyfriend and used the cash to buy herself pets, according to police in Vermont.
North Hero police said that they have arrested 30-year-old Ashleigh Tillson after being accused of abusing 88 animals.
She was charged with 88 counts of animals cruelty at the Vermont Superior Court.
Tillson was released on bail and was banned from owning animals.
According to the police investigation, Tillson rented a home on South Street for $700 per month.
The landlord recently visited the home after learning that Tillson no longer lived there.
The landlord called police after noticing flies covering all the windows of the home.
Police entered the home and found 80 dead animals, including 30 in a freezer.
Many of the animals were decomposed.
Among the many dead animals, police recovered 8 pets that were barely alive.
The pets were handed over to the Humane Society of Chittenden County and Heart Wildlife.
Tillson’s former boyfriend told investigators that the suspect would beg him for money to pay her bills but instead used the cash to buy more animals.
