A jailed man died after several meth-filled balloons that he attempted to smuggle into prison popped in his mouth, according to police in Oregon.
The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said that they have arrested 46-year-old Melissa Ann Blair after being accused of smuggling meth into prison for her boyfriend, 41-year-old Anthony Powell.
Blair has been sentenced to serve 2 years in prison after being convicted on a drug conspiracy charge.
U.S. District Judge Marco Hernandez said that Powell shared responsibility for his own death by trying to swallow meth-filled balloons.
Powell was serving a life sentence in prison for killing his mother-in-law.
According to the police investigation, Powell and Blair conspired to smuggle meth into prison.
When Blair visited her boyfriend in jail, she kissed him on the lips.
During their kissing session, Blair transferred 7 balloons filled with meth from her mouth to his.
However, two balloons popped in Powell’s stomach, causing him to overdose.
Powell later died as a result of the meth overdose.
