Parents of a young girl are devastated that their daughter committed suicide two weeks after a video of her being involved in a fight went viral.
10-year-old Ashawnty Davis of Colorado, who was in fifth grade, was found hanging in a closet in her room.
She was taken to Children’s Hospital, where she was on life support for two weeks before she died.
According to her parents, Davis was bullied at school. One day, she had enough and decided to fight back. According to her mother, Davis seemed scared during the fight.
Another student took video of the fight and posted it to an app called Musical.ly. The 10-year-old was very distressed over the fact that the video was seen by so many people.
Her parents reached out to the school and they spoke to all the children who were involved. They handed over the video to police for further investigation.
Just two weeks after the incident, Davis came home from school and hanged herself.
Her parents went public with their grief in order to warn other parents about the terrible effects of bullying and sharing such videos.
They claim their daughter was a victim of “bullycide,” which is when a person commits suicide after being the victim of bullying.
