A man and his much younger girlfriend killed their son after human traffickers refused to purchase their baby, according to police in Nigeria.

Ebonyi police said that they have arrested 36-year-old Ajibore Ahmed and 17-year-old Chidimma Igwe after killing 8-month-old Emmanuel.

Ahmed and Igwe were charged with murder.

According to the police investigation, Ahmed met Igwe and they began having a sexual relationship.

Igwe became pregnant and later gave birth to a healthy baby boy.

The couple named the boy Emmanuel.

The two then decided to sell their baby to human traffickers for $1,100.

Igwe was kept in a building as the human traffickers were trying to find a buyer for the baby.

At some point, the human traffickers decided that they no longer wanted to sell the baby.

Igwe escaped and went back to her parents’ home.

One night, Ahmed came to Igwe’s home and brought along a wire and $8.

He gave the wire and the cash to Igwe and ordered her to strangle the baby.

Igwe did as she was told and killed the baby.

Emmanuel was then buried in a shallow grave.
