Police are looking to arrest those behind an extreme case of animal cruelty, according to police in South Carolina.
City of York police said that a couple spotted a group of people fighting on Sunday, at around 9:30 p.m.
The boyfriend of Bayleigh Allen flashed the headlights of his car at the group of people and they quickly fled the scene.
Allen got out of the car and noticed a 1-year-old dog tied to a tree on Madison Street near Lowry Row.
She called police as the dog was covered in wounds and its tongue was cut off.
Police officers who arrived at the scene took the dog named Briggs and handed it over to Noah’s Arks Rescue in Ridgeland.
The animal rescue organization is treating the dog.
The dog had a chip and police called the owner who claimed that she recently gave the dog to a man.
The man apparently used the dog in fights with other dogs.
So far, no arrests have been made.
A spokesperson for Noah’s Arks Rescue said that the dog is healing and it will eventually learn how to eat without its tongue.
