A mother spoke about her pain of losing her family when her son died and her former fiance was arrested for his death.
28-year-old Kyle Clayton McClain of Colorado pleaded guilty to Class 4 felony manslaughter over the death of 7-year-old Kavian Eleby who fell to his death off the Cheyenne Canyon.
McClain, who was engaged to Eleby’s mother Wilma, helped raise the boy since he was 2-years-old.
McClain and Wilma also have a 2-year-old daughter together.
Wilma said that her son loved McClain and he loved the boy. That is why she trusted him to take her son hiking.
Sadly, during the hike, the 7-year-old boy fell off a cliff. He landed 100 feet below.
McClain admitted to drinking alcohol before taking the child hiking. A grand jury also found that the area he was hiking was obviously too dangerous for a child.
McClain faces up to 12 years in prison.
Wilma feels that her ex-fiance should pay for his negligence but at the same time, she does not want their daughter to suffer by not having her father in her life.
Wilma said that she would like for McClain to be sentenced to 2 or 3 years in prison.
