A man in Florida shot himself while trying to throw away a stolen gun.
Luckily for him, he survived the injuries.
23-year-old Matthew Lukine Brown from St. Petersburg faces multiple driving-related charges after he shot himself while being chased by police, authorities said.
Around 12:15 a.m., members of the Violent Crime Task Force saw a Honda Accord driving recklessly, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers observed Brown speeding through a residential area and driving past stop signs with the headlights of his vehicle turned off.
During the pursuit, officers said they saw a bright light and heard what sounded like a shot from inside the car. They then watched as Brown threw a gun through the window, according to the police report.
Task Force members were able to stop the car using a tire-deflating device. When authorities tried to conduct a traffic stop, Brown fled.
They managed to catch Brown, who had a gunshot wound to his right thigh. Authorities said Brown had accidentally shot himself while trying to discard the weapon, which was previously reported as stolen from a vehicle in Largo.
Brown was taken to a hospital for treatment before being transferred to the Pinellas County Jail, where his bail was set at $15,250.
