A mother allowed a sex offender to live at her home despite the fact that she had young children.

The children’s mother, Amanda Perea, 41, used to date John Cornell, 41, and allowed him to stay at her home while he was on probation for sex crimes against children.

During his stay, Perea found sexually explicit photos of her two young daughters and her niece. The photos were taken by Cornell, who molested the children.

Instead of calling the police, the mother destroyed the photos.

The crime came to light after one of her daughters told a therapist that she saw “bad” images of Cornell touching her sister, according to a news release.

Both Perea and Cornell were arrested.

Perea pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence. She lost custody of her children and was sentenced to 30 days in jail, 50 hours of community service, and two years of probation.

In order for the children not to have to go through the trauma of testifying in court, prosecutors agreed to a plea deal with Cornell.

Cornell pleaded guilty to four counts of sex assault on a child by a person in a position of trust while 69 other counts against him have been dropped.

Cornell was sentenced to 70 years to life in prison for assaulting the three children.
