Mother turns 17-year-old son into police after he beat woman over the head and raped her in parkBy Emily Lewis 8:41 AM December 5, 2017
A woman suffered life-threatening injuries after she was attacked and raped by a teenager.
Police asked the public for help in identifying the suspect, who hit the woman over the head with a stone paving slab before raping her, stealing her purse, and leaving her to die.
After the public plea, the teen, who has not been named due to his age, was brought to the police station by his mother who recognized him from the photo that was released by police.
The Leicester Crown Court also heard that three youths, sitting in the children’s play area at the Leicester Victoria Park, heard screams and saw a woman struggling with a man.
The group called police at 11:30 p.m., but by the time police arrived, they did not find the victim or the suspect.
About 50 minutes later, a cyclist contacted police and an ambulance after finding the wounded victim, who was lying semi-conscious behind some trees.
Police said that the suspect beat the woman over the head with the stone slab, raped her, and dumped her behind the trees.
He hoped that she would die so that she cannot tell anyone about the rape.
The woman was rushed to the hospital, where she is being treated.
Prosecutor Gordon Aspden showed the jury a video from a CCTV, which showed the suspect walking with the paving stone.
The suspect brought it with him for that very purpose of attacking and raping a woman.
The suspect was taken into custody after his DNA was found to be a match to that taken from the victim.
The teen allegedly admitted to causing grievous bodily harm, two counts of rape, and stealing the victim’s handbag, but he denied attempting to murder the woman.
The teen is now on trial on charges of attempted murder.
