A mother and her uncle were arrested after her son was found dead outside their home.
Emergency workers were called at 7:30 a.m. to a home Birmingham, England, after a child was found lying unconscious.
Sadly, they were unable to save the boy who was identified as 7-year-old Hakeem Hussain.
Police were called to investigate the incident after the child was left outside the home in near-freezing temperatures.
According to the initial investigation, police said the 7-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest and hypothermia.
A post-mortem examination will confirm the exact cause of death.
Police arrested Hussain’s mother, 25-year-old Laura Heath, and the child’s great-uncle, Timothy Busk, 56. They are facing charges of wilfully ill-treating a child.
“He was a warm and generous-hearted soul who was talented across many areas of the curriculum but especially so in music and the arts,” Julie Wright, the principal from Nechells E-ACT Academy, where Hakeem was a first-grader, said.
“His performance as the ‘Christmas Star’ in the play last year will stay with me forever as he totally stole the show with his clear speaking voice and stage presence,” Wright.
