A newborn baby suffered abuse by his parents including severe burns to his face, according to police in Missouri.
Park Hills police said that they have arrested 22-year-old Derick Boyce-Slezak and 22-year-old Mikala Boyce-Slezak after being accused of fracturing the skull of their 2-week-old son.
The husband and wife were both charged with abuse or neglect of a child.
They were booked into the St. Francois County Jail and bail was set at $500,000 each.
According to the police investigation, Derick and Mikala were married and had a baby girl together.
Shortly after the birth, the parents voluntary gave up custody of the girl.
Recently, the couple had a son.
When the boy was 2-weeks-old, the parents brought the baby to the Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.
When doctors noticed second-degree burns on the boy’s face, they called the police.
The couple told police that the burns were the result of cleaning the boy’s face with a cleaning agent.
Further tests on the boy showed that he suffered from a fractured skull.
A social worker testified that the child was dropped to the ground, and as a result, he suffered a skull fracture and a subdural hematoma.
The baby was also placed in a microwave and turned it on for short period of time to imitate a TV commercial.
The child is said to be in stable condition.
