By: Michelle Parker

Taking breaks at work is very important as they help you be more productive once you return.

Here are some tips on how to make the most out of your breaks at work.

Send your partner a love message. Use your free time to bring a smile to the face of your partner.

Although your partner may be working at the time, they will get to see the message while taking a break, and it will help them de-stress and make their day happier.

Send the love message via email, text message or social media.

Do exercise and you don’t have to spend more than a few minutes.

If you work in a building, one great and cost effective exercise is to walk up and down the stairs.

You can also do planks for a few minutes.

These exercises might be difficult at first, but when you complete them, you will feel energized and more focused.

Get fresh air and relax. Walk around the block slowly, or sit in nearby park or under tree. You can use this time to daydream of brainstorm ideas for work or to eat.

If the weather is nice, apply suntan lotion, lie down on a bench or on the grass. Bring along a meal or healthy snacks and eat them in peace away from your desk.

Get full on healthy food rather than grabbing some cookies, chocolate bars or other high sugary foods. This will make you more energetic and ready to get back to work.

Drink coffee while doing some online shopping. You can order a small gift online to surprise your partner, child, parent or friend.

They will be overjoyed when the unexpected gift arrives in the mail. Check eBay for small cheap gift ideas. Choose the “free international shipping” option for the most savings.

Organize your work space. You will have a lot more peace of mind when your workspace is neat and clean. Do it during your break even if it is not your job as it will make your work environment much more pleasant.

Call loved ones. You can use your break to call your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins or childhood friends.

Let them know that you are on your break and that you don’t have a lot of time, but that you thought about them and you wanted to say hi.

It will make the person feel special that you took time during your busy day to call them.

Remember to take breaks during work. Don’t feel guilty by taking time off even when you have a lot of work to do or if it's busy because taking a break will help you be much more energized, focused and productive.

Take a power nap. You can use your car or somewhere else where no one can see you to take a short but well-deserved nap. Remember to set an alarm on your phone so that you don’t oversleep.
