11-year-old girl dies after walking in front of train while looking at her phoneBy William Martin 5:31 AM January 5, 2018
A young girl tragically lost her life after she walked onto train tracks while looking at her phone and listening to music.
11-year-old Yazmin White of Florida had bought some sweets for herself and her 9-year-old brother who was waiting for her at their Haines City home.
When she left the convenience store, White took a shortcut to her home. She crosses railroad tracks, which are just yards away from her home.
However, she did not realize that she was walking into the path of an oncoming train.
“The train conductor continually blew the horn for about a quarter of a mile all the while he was trying to stop the train,” Sheriff Grady Judd of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said.
Judd said that White, who was wearing her headphones and was looking down at her phone, did not hear the train until it was too late.
When White finally looked up and saw the train close to her, she tried to jump out of the way but it was too late and she was killed, he said.
