A young girl brought a bag of marijuana gummy bears to school and handed out the drug-laced sweets to her classmates, causing them to get ill, according to police in New Mexico.
Albuquerque police said that they investigating the incident after several students became ill from the marijuana gummy bears.
The incident unfolded last week at the Albuquerque School of Excellence.
A 9-year-old girl brought a bag of gummy bears to the school.
She handed them out to classmates in the school’s cafeteria.
The 9-year-old girl and three other students became sick.
They all felt the room spinning and some of them could not see clearly.
School officials called paramedics who watched the victims until the effects of the drugs wore off.
The 9-year-old girl told school officials that she did not know that the gummy bears contained marijuana as it said “Incredibles” on them and they looked like ordinary candy.
The parents told police that they bought the marijuana gummy bears for medicinal purposes.
Despite this, the girl was suspended from school.
Marijuana gummy bears are up to 100 times stronger than joints.
The Albuquerque School of Excellence said in a statement: “As we informed our parents via email of the incident that happened last week, we would like to remind all students and parents to be cautious about food and drink sharing.
“A picture is worth a thousand words, and we would like our community to be alert with drugs and any edibles that may or could be in different formats. We kindly ask our parents and community members not to talk explicitly about drugs/medicine when students are present.”
