A bride and groom were forced to sleep separately on the first night as a married couple.

Instead of having a romantic night together, the couple from Cumbria, England, was placed in separate jail cells, according to defense attorney Andy Gallagher.

Police were called at around 11:30 p.m. to the Farmers Arms pub in Ulverston on a report of an “unresponsive female wearing a bridal gown,” police said.

When they arrived, the bride began cursing at the officers. She allegedly called them pigs and spat at the officers.

Prosecutor Peter Kelly said that the bride, Keira Andrea Draper, 39, spat at police officers because she was offended that they came to her wedding.

Seeing his bride being arrested, the groom, Neill John Draper, 44, became upset and belligerent.

Officers searched the groom who seemed to be intoxicated and allegedly found a small amount of cannabis on him.

In court, the bride pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in a public place and assaulting a constable in the execution of duty.

She was ordered to pay a fine in the total amount of £270 (about $380).

The groom pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly and possessing a controlled Class B drug. He was fined £390 ($550).
