An elderly man lost his life during a hunting trip after his excited dog tried to jump on him, according to police in Russia.

Krasnokutsky police said that they have launched an investigation after 65-year-old Sergei Terekhov died of a gunshot wound to the stomach in an area designated for hunting animals.

The incident unfolded on Sunday, at around 9:30 a.m.

Terekhov and his friend went hunting and he took along his two loyal dogs.

They all traveled to the designated hunting area with Terekhov’s truck.

When Terekhov arrived, he left his vehicle and placed his hunting rifle on the ground.

He then opened the back door of his truck to let out his two dogs.

That is when one of his dogs got excited and tried to jump into its owner.

The dog then stepped on the rifle’s trigger and fired a shot.

Terekhov was hit in the abdomen as the rifle was pointing at his body.

Terekhov’s friend called an ambulance but the victim died on the way to the hospital.
