A father told police that his daughter committed suicide despite the fact that he shot her in the face, according to police in Oklahoma.
Norman police said that they have arrested 43-year-old Ronald Lee McMullen Jr., after being accused of killing his 22-year-old daughter Kailee.
McMullen has been charged with one count of first-degree murder.
He was booked into jail and Cleveland County Judge Steve Stice has denied the defendant’s request for bail.
If convicted, McMullen faces the death penalty.
According to the police investigation, Kailee was the Norman North High School captain of the cheerleading squad.
When Kailee was 14-year-old, McMullen was accused of sexually assaulting her.
Kailee’s friends said that in the days before the murder, the victim allegedly told them that her father began abusing her again.
On the day of the murder, at around 5:30 a.m., McMullen called the police to report that his daughter shot herself in the face because she wanted to die.
Police officers who arrived at the scene found McMullen covered in his daughter’s blood.
McMullen claimed that he tried to grab the gun from his daughter moments before she shot herself.
Kailee suffered from a single gunshot wound to the nose.
She was declared dead the scene.
McMullen’s version of the events did not add up as evidence showed the gun was fired from a distance of 18 inches from Kailee’s head.
The furthest Kailee could have possibly held the gun away from her face was 14 inches.
Therefore, police determined that McMullen shot her.
