Man kills neighbor because she was removing snow from his drivewayBy Emily Lewis 4:48 AM January 7, 2018
A man killed his neighbor because she was removing snow from the front of his home, according to police in Michigan.
Court records show that 63-year-old Wendell Earl Popejoy of Ottawa County confessed that he fatally shot his neighbor.
Popejoy told police that when he saw his next-door neighbor, 59-year-old Sheila Bonge, snow blowing the driveway in front of his home in the 14000 block of 104th Street, he decided to kill her.
Popejoy grabbed his gun and shot Bonge in the back of the head. He then dumped her body in a wooded area behind his home.
Police said that they have been called to the area more than 5 times recently for disputes between neighbors.
Another neighbor reportedly tried to get a restraining order against Bonge but a judge denied the request.
Popejoy, who had no criminal record, was charged with felony murder and using a firearm in a felony.
Bonge’s family set up a GoFundMe account to pay for her funeral expenses.
Her brother John Luke wrote: “My sister Sheila was tragically murdered. She went missing and they found her body a few days later.
“She was suddenly taken away from her family in such a cruel senseless way.
“She was a mother, a grandma, a great grandma, aunt, and a sister. She was loved very much and will be deeply missed. She was loved by many.”
