A man deliberately committed a crime because he wanted to go to prison, according to police in Japan.
Tokyo police said that they have arrested 54-year-old Koichi Takahashi after being accused of setting his hotel room on fire.
Takahashi is facing charges of arson and criminal damage.
According to the police investigation, the incident unfolded on Thursday, at around 8:30 a.m.
Takahashi checked into the Apa Hotel and went to his room.
He then placed a newspaper on the bed and lit it on fire with a cigarette lighter.
The bed sheets and mattress quickly caught on fire and the room suffered extensive damage.
Hotel staff managed to evacuate all guests and employees.
Luckily, nobody was injured.
Meanwhile, Takahashi went to the nearest police station to turn himself in.
During questioning by police, he admitted to starting the fire.
He told investigators that he deliberately committed a crime because he wanted to go to prison.
