A man who won a lottery jackpot just several weeks ago passed away in his home surrounded by his friends and family.

51-year-old Donald Louis Savastano of Sidney, New York, died after recently being diagnosed with cancer.

Doctors did not expect him to die so quickly.

Three weeks ago, Savastano purchased a $10 Merry Millionaire scratch-off lottery ticket.

He scratched off the ticket and quickly noticed that he won the jackpot.

He excitedly told his girlfriend, Julie Wheeler, that he just won a lot of money and cashed in the ticket.

He got nearly $650,000 after taxes.

When Savastano was asked what he planned to do with the windfall, he said that he plans to save for retirement and maybe buy a new truck as well as pay off some debt.

He planned to invest the remaining money.

Sadly, Savastano had no clue that he was about to die and will be unable to enjoy the money.

On Friday, Savastano suddenly passed away at home.

Savastano left behind his mother, two sisters, and four brothers.

Savastano was a successful self-employed carpenter.

He was known for his high-quality work and perfectionism.

He always tried to reach out and help those he could by teaching them “the right way to do things.”

For the past 12 years, Savastano lived with Wheeler and helped her raise her boys, Alex and Kaspar Gray.
