The boy was transported to the Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters in critical condition by Nightingale Air Ambulance.
When the child arrived at the hospital, further injuries were discovered that led investigators to charge the child’s mother with one felony count of child abuse and one count of aggravated malicious wounding.
Jaye Lynn Hadley, 32, was arrested and transported to the Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
She was denied bail.
5-year-old Alexander Levi Robertson was listed in critical condition and additional charges are under review by the Commonwealth Attorney’s office.
Doctors said that the boy suffered permanent brain injury and will probably die soon.
Investigators with the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office secured a felony warrant for child neglect against 33-year-old Justin Cox, the father of the boy.
Cox was taken to Western Tidewater Regional Jail and was denied bail.
According to the police investigation, Hadley was a teacher at the Grace Child Development Center in Newport News.
The school has suspended her after learning about the vicious assault.
Hadley told police that her son fell on the wall but the injuries were not consistent were her version of the events.
Police believe that she picked up her so and slammed his head into the wall and ground.
The boy also tested positive for opioids.
