A mother who was found to be competent to stand trial was sentenced to life in prison without parole after being found guilty of first-degree murder, according to prosecutors in Oklahoma.

According to the evidence that was presented at trial, Oklahoma City police officers were sent to the home in the 1500 block of N. McKinley Avenue for a welfare check of a 33-year-old woman.

Officers who arrived at the home, found the 33-year-old woman lying on the floor with a large crucifix on her chest.

The woman was identified as Geneva Gomez.

She had apparent head and neck trauma.

Police also found her mother, Juanita Gomez, 50, inside the home.

Juanita told police that she killed her daughter by shoving a crucifix and a religious medallion down her throat.

When asked why she did so, Gomez said that her daughter was growling at her, causing her to believe that she was possessed by the devil and Satan, police said.

Police found bruises on the mother’s hands.

Juanita said that the injuries came from her trying to “rid Satan of her daughter’s body.”

Juanita also admitted to punching her daughter several times.
