Police have charged more than 1,000 people with sex crimes for sharing a sex video of teenagers on a social media site, according to police in Denmark.

1,004 young people from across the country were charged with distribution of indecent images of children after clicking the share button on Facebook.

The video they shared showed two 15-year-old children having sex.

The suspects who were over 18-year-old have been ordered to turn themselves into the police station while the minors were notified about the charges by their parents.

If convicted, the suspects could face up to 20 days in prison.

They could also be ordered to register as sex offenders for 10 years.

Some suspects shared the video several times but others sent it to hundreds of people.

Police warned the public to never share sex videos on Facebook or other social media sites.

The crime came to light after Facebook notified officials in the United States about the child sex video being shared on their social media site.

U.S. officials investigated the origin of the sex video and tracked it down to Denmark.

Police in Denmark was then notified about the sex video.
