A police officer is fighting for his life after he was stabbed by a wanted sex offender who raped and impregnated a girl.

Detective Sergeant John Breda, a senior police officer, was stabbed twice while attempting to make the arrest at the Maroubra Junction Hotel in Australia.

The 45-year-old married father of two children was stabbed by the wanted child sex offender, 33-year-old Nick Newman, at around 3:00 p.m.

Newman then reportedly attempted to cut his own throat with a knife before two other officers shot him in the hotel’s beer garden.

Detective Breda was rushed to San Vicente Hospital, where he is in critical but stable condition.

A judge reportedly put a warrant out for Newman’s arrest after he failed to appear in court for 6 counts of rape, one count of intentionally choking, and one count of aggravated sexual assault against a person under 16.

Two days later, he was tracked down by detectives. Sadly, what was meant to be a simple arrest, ended with the officer being badly injured and fighting for his life.

The suspect died of his wounds.
