A man who served his country fell to his death while trying to catch his cell phone that fell out of a window.
32-year-old Nicholas Githaiga from Nigeria was a Lance Corporal stationed Germany.
The Southwark Coroner’s Court heard that Githaiga was talking on the phone with his friend Eva Muthoni and was smoking a cigarette at the same time.
The cell phone slipped out of his hand, and as he desperately tried to grab it, Githaiga fell through the window to his death.
Muthoni told the court that he was speaking to Githaiga when he suddenly heard him saying: “My phone is falling. Wait, wait.”
He then heard a loud bang. He tried calling his friend’s name but he got no answer.
The father of two children was married but he had some material issues.
According to reports, his wife, Danielle Pigurs, tried to get her husband arrested for driving while intoxicated. She called the police but her husband was not arrested.
However, Muthoni said that he does not believe that Githaiga would intentionally hurt himself as he was “so full of life.”
The death was ruled as accidental.
