A son who fatally beat his mother at her home will spend time in a mental health facility after he was found not guilty of murder by reason of insanity, according to court documents in Ohio.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office said that they have arrested 48-year-old Derrick Williams after being accused of beating his mother, 78-year-old Alaine.
Williams has been charged with murder and felonious assault.
This week, a judge ruled that Williams was insane.
Therefore, he found Williams not guilty of murder by reason of insanity.
Williams will be sent to a mental health facility until doctors determine he is no longer mentally insane.
According to the police investigation, Williams and his mother were arguing about a microwave in the kitchen of her home on Hartford Avenue in Akron.
Williams claimed that he saw the head of a neighbor’s dog on his mother’s body.
He grabbed a lead pipe and beat his mother to death.
Williams sister found her mother’s body on the kitchen floor and called the police.
During questioning, Williams told police that the host of the Wheel Of Fortune game show, Pat Sajak, told him to kill his mother.
Williams heard Sajak talking about Akron and then saying the words “do it.”
Williams interpreted this to mean that he should kill his mother.
