A drug-addicted man stole his stepdaughter’s dog and used the proceeds to purchase drugs, according to police in North Carolina.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said that they have arrested 41-year-old Christopher O’Neal Eakes after being accused of stealing the dog.
Eakes has been charged with one count of theft of a dog.
He was booked into jail and his bail has been set at $2,500.
According to the police investigation, Eakes and his stepdaughter live in the same home.
On Sunday, the girl noticed that her 8-week-old Yorkshire terrier was missing from her home located on Club Knolls Road.
The girl called the police to report the theft.
The girl told the police officers who arrived at the scene that she suspected her stepfather of the theft.
Police learned that Eakes sold the dog and used the cash to buy meth.
The girl decided to allow the dog to remain with the new owners because they were a good family.
