An elderly woman has died after getting her head stuck in the fence around a bank, according to police in Illinois.
Chicago police said that 64-year-old Linda Bringman tried to climb over the fence outside the PNC Bank branch on W. Fullerton Avenue when her head became stuck.
The incident unfolded on Friday, at around 12:00 p.m.
Passersby who found Bringman lying face down on the iron fence called for help.
Paramedics who arrived at the scene attempted to revive her.
Bringman was rushed to the Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she later died.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Bringman died as a result of positional asphyxia.
The death was ruled an accident.
Police launched an investigation to learn why the woman tried to climb over the fence.
So far, police believe that the woman was not involved in any criminal activities.
Bringman left behind two children and one grandchild.
Her husband died of cancer 2 years ago after 40 years of marriage.
