A man who devoted his life to helping people was found dead with a gunshot to the head.

The well-known police officer who is also a firefighter was found dead by employees of a bar when they arrived to work in the morning.

The body of New York Police Officer Nicholas Budney was found on the deck of Billy Joe’s Ribworks in Newburgh, New York.

The initial investigation indicates that the officer shot himself in the head sometime during the night but he was not found until the next morning.

Budney was named cop-of-the-year 4 times. He was also a member of the North Highland Fire Department, where he had recently been named “Fireman of the Year.”

Earlier in the day, Budney was reportedly involved in a minor car accident. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

After being released from the hospital, the officer went to the bar, where he allegedly committed suicide.
