A man said that he received a letter in the mail, stating that his dog was approved to receive unemployment benefits.

Michael Haddock, who works as an attorney in Saugatuck, Michigan, said that he was surprised to receive a letter from the State of Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA).

He had not applied for unemployment for himself or a family member. Furthermore, the letter was addressed to “Michael Ryder.”

Ryder is Haddock’s beloved German Shepherd. According to the letter, Ryder was going to get $360 per week in unemployment benefits after being laid off from a restaurant chain in Detroit.

Haddock said that he contacted the restaurant but the manager was skeptical about his claim. She asked him to scan the document and send it to her. He did so and he also contacted the UIA.

The UIA is now investigating the unemployment claim as it seems as though someone stole the dog’s identity and tried to use it to get free money.
