Father killed during argument about weight of dogBy Alexis Bell 8:22 AM February 13, 2018
A father was killed while eating lunch with a coworker at a restaurant.
The Missouri father, who had buried his premature baby daughter just last week, was shot dead after an argument about the weight of a dog turned violent.
43-year-old Scott Beary was at the Show-Me’s Sports Bar & Grill in Florissant with his co-worker when a man claimed that his German Shepherd weighed 290 pounds.
Beary did not believe the man and they got into a heated argument.
As Beary was leaving the store, a friend of the dog owner called him a fat expletive. When Beary turned to confront the man, he was fatally shot.
His co-worker, Ryan Jacobsmeyer, 37, was injured when he was shot in the arm.
The 54-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder but he was later released as prosecutors have not yet decided whether to file criminal charges.
The shooter claimed he acted in self-defense when he shot Beary.
Just five days before the shooting, Beary and his wife had to bury their 11-day-old daughter Jocelyn, who was born at 22 weeks of pregnancy, Jeana Sellenschuetter, Beary’s friend and employer at CSM Construction, said.
Beary, who was described as a loving husband and father, leaves behind his wife and 3 children who are 13, 15, and 16-years-old.
