People from around the world made death threats against a fire chief and his family members in Pennsylvania after learning that he sexually assaulted a little girl.
For the past 2 years, 44-year-old Roger Gilbert Jr. was the fire chief of the Spartansburg Volunteer Fire and Ambulance.
Recently, he was re-elected to the position.
He had the support of the mayor and firefighters after serving as a firefighter for 25 years.
The mayor and everyone in the city knew about Gilbert’s criminal past but they did not care.
Gilbert was accused of forcing a 4-year-old girl to perform sex acts on him.
Gilbert was sentenced to severe at least 5 years in prison after pleading to involuntary deviant sexual intercourse with a child.
After he was released from prison, Gilbert went back to work at the Spartansburg Volunteer Fire and Ambulance.
He was quickly promoted and eventually became the fire chief.
When the mother of the victim learned that Gilbert was the fire chief, she became outraged.
She claimed that Gilbert had no right to be in a position of authority as he is a registered sex offender.
She published her story.
It did not take too long for people from around the world to make death threats against Gilbert and his family.
Gilbert resigned in order to protect his family.
He said that he could not understand why people have a problem with him helping others.
