A man who was angry with his girlfriend tried to kill her along with her unborn child, according to police in Florida.
Pensacola police said that they have arrested 36-year-old Onix Afanador after intentionally driving his vehicle into a utility pole in order to kill his pregnant girlfriend and their unborn child.
In court, Afanador has been found guilty of aggravated battery on a pregnant woman and battery.
Circuit Judge Edward P. Nickinson sentenced Afanador to 20 years in prison.
He must serve 10 years before being eligible for parole.
According to the police investigation, Afanador became violent with his girlfriend despite being pregnant with their child.
When she was 12 weeks pregnant, Afanador and his girlfriend were in a car when they began arguing.
Afanador made threats and said that he wished to kill her and their unborn child.
Witnesses at the scene told police that they saw Afanador drive erratically.
Afanador then slammed his vehicle into a utility pole in order to kill his girlfriend.
Luckily, the mother and her unborn child were not hurt.
