Snake kills 8 months pregnant woman and her unborn child while visiting her parentsBy Emily Lewis 1:55 PM February 6, 2018
The parents of a young woman are devastated after she died while visiting them at their home, according to police in Australia.
Meekatharra police said that 27-year-old Sanita Martin was visiting her parents on Monday night when she was bitten by a venomous snake.
Martin was 8 months pregnant and she had a 3-year-old son.
Martin ran into her parents’ home located on Main Street and yelled that she was bitten by a snake at around 8:30 p.m.
She then collapsed.
Her parents immediately called an ambulance and she was taken to the Meekatharra Hospital, where she and her unborn child died.
Doctors said that the woman went into cardiac arrest from the snake’s venom.
Dr. Timothy Jackson said that the pregnancy accelerated the woman’s death because her immune system was compromised and was unable to fend off the venom long enough until she got antivenom.
