People were shocked to see a video that showed two young people killing a puppy with a hammer and putting it into a microwave, according to police in Ireland.

Lurgan police said that they have arrested a 16-year-old boy and his 23-year-old friend after recording themselves bludgeoning the dog named Sparky to death and cooking its remains in a microwave.

Police wrote that they have received horrendous reports throughout the week and they now believe that this happened on Saturday, between late morning and late afternoon.

“There has been a suggestion that the footage of the attack was posted on Snapchat or other social media platforms. If you have seen any footage or photographs of the incident then we need to hear from you.

“If you happened to screenshot or record any videos that were sent, we need them. That will be the difference between an evidential case and pure hearsay. Currently, what we have is a lot of he said, she said.

“The incident number is 1135. If you can assist us with this investigation, call 101 now. Whatever happened, it is obvious that little Sparky suffered a horrendous death. We want to get to the bottom of that and make sure that whoever is responsible is held to account. We have 2 people in custody but we need the evidence to be able to take that further.”

The two suspects are facing charges of suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

The police managed to recover the hammer and the dog’s remains.

Sparky was just 11-weeks-old when it was brutally killed.

Police have urged Snapchat to hand over the now deleted video of the attack but the social media giant refused the request.
